The Ravine enhancement project is moving towards its installation phase, thanks to a supply of local boulders gifted to us by Betty O’Brien of Elton Vineyards and the folks at Willamette Valley Vineyards. Thanks, too, to the City of Salem for use of their trucks. The project is led by landscape designer Ron Miner.
“The Ravine” sounds dramatic, but it is in fact a small, seasonal seep that has created a narrow depression in the park’s landscape. MSPC is enhancing the area by adding local boulders to the stream’s course, planting ferns and other appropriate ground cover, and planting magnolias, Japanese maples, and several shrubs. We will also add a small rock scramble for children and a naturalistic seating area.
Our hope is to inspire more use for this space by increasing its natural beauty and providing opportunities for rest and play.
