This small bed is located in The Orchard and it was likely installed between 1939 and 1972. The presence of a Deutzia cultivar hints at the involvement of Lord & Schryver.
The bed contains:
- Punica grantaum (Pomegranate)
- Deutzia cultivar
- Philadelphus cultivar
A sword fern (Polystichum munitum) has self-seeded into the bed.
The small boulder is likely a erratic basalt boulder that was deposited during the Missoula floods. It may have been unearthed during the bed’s construction or moved a short distance to become an accent. These boulders are found throughout the park and the Willamette Valley.
